Breaking: Gunmen Behead Man, Abduct Another In Rivers

Unidentified gunmen Thursday morning, stormed Mgbuitanwo, in Emohua Clan, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, killed and beheaded a 28-year-old man identified as Mr. Ukeoma.
The Local government is the home town of the Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the Saturday’s rerun elections, Chief Andrew Uchendu,
Vanguard reports that the gunmen who laid siege to the community also abducted another resident. At the moment, residents are in shock and fear permeates the area.
Rivers state has been home to political violence since 2015 election with the APC and the PDP are at loggerheads over who takes political offices.
Amid increasing violence ahead of the state House of Assembly re-run election billed for this Saturday, President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Malabo vowed to deal decisively with all sponsors of violence in Rivers state.
“I have given the security services clear directives in this regard”, Buhari said.
“We will show that violence in any form will no longer be tolerated before, during or after elections,” the President said at an interactive meeting with Nigerians resident in Equatorial Guinea.
The President condemned recent political violence in Rivers State, saying that the killing of people over political differences was primitive, barbaric and unacceptable.

French police arrest four people suspected of planning terror attacks

François Hollande has warned that the terrorist threat in France remains very high after four people believed to have militant Islamist ties were arrested in dawn raids in the Paris area on suspicion of planning attacks in the French capital.

Three men and a woman were arrested in the north of Paris but the investigation was focused on one of them: a 28-year-old French man who has been under house arrest since 29 February under the special provisions of France’s state of emergency.
He had been sentenced to five years in prison in March 2014 after being arrested two years earlier when he tried to leave France for Syria. The French TV station TF1 reported that he had been released in October last year.
The man was arrested on Wednesday with his partner in Seine-Saint-Denis on the north-east edge of Paris. Two French brothers of Turkish family origin were also arrested at the same time in a northern arrondissement.
“We have information about one person that suggests that he could undertake violent actions in France,” the French interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, said, adding that the man was thought to have ties with Islamic State in Syria.

Cazeneuve said: “This person was arrested this morning along with people linked with him.”
He warned against jumping to the conclusion that an attack was imminent, saying police checks were under way.
French media reported that police seized computer equipment and an unused cartridge for an automatic rifle.
Meanwhile, police in Belgium continued to hunt for two suspects who fled a Brussels flat after a shootout on Tuesday during a raid linked to November’s Paris attacks.
Police shot dead a gunman during the raid in the Brussels neighbourhood of Forest. The gunman was identified as Mohamed Belkaïd, a 35-year-old Algerian living illegally in Belgium. He was shot dead by a police sniper as he prepared to fire at officers from a window.
“Next to his body was a Kalashnikov, a book on Salafism and an Islamic State flag,” said Thierry Werts, of the Belgian federal prosecutor’s office.
The flat in southern Brussels also contained a large cache of ammunition, investigating prosecutor Eric Van der Sypt said.
Belkaïd had previously only been known to police for a case of theft in 2014.
The anti-terror raid in Brussels came as French and Belgian police continue to investigate the 13 November gun-and-bombing attacks on a stadium, Paris cafes and a rock concert.
The Paris attacks, which were claimed by Isis, are believed to have been partly prepared and coordinated in Brussels.
Belgian officials said that since the attacks, 58 people have been arrested in the direct investigation and another 23 arrested in related inquiries.
The Belgian prime minister, Charles Michel, said the country’s terror alert would stay at the second highest level, “which means a threat is possible and likely”.
Michel called on residents to “stay calm and cool-headed”. He told broadcaster RTL: “The investigation continues and the danger remains.”

PDP Frowns At Abuja Council Poll Postponement

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed dissatisfaction with the postponement of Abuja Local Government election which was initially scheduled for March 19.
PDP in statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh on Wednesday, said the poll was postponed “at the instance of a particular political party”.
The statement further reads: “Intelligence reports available to us indicate that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was instigated to shift the election merely because that particular political party realized that our candidates were going to sweep the polls.
“It is indeed incontrovertible that most Nigerians from all walks of life residing in Abuja are in support of the PDP and are ready to express this support overwhelmingly at the FCT elections. The shift, we know is a fallout of the panic and conspiracy against the PDP.
“We ask, is the postponement to allow a particular set of electoral and security officers being used in the Rivers state National and State Assembly rerun elections enough time to conclude that assignment and return to conduct the one in Abuja in two weeks time?
“Is the development a confirmation that these particular electoral and security officials are on special assignment against the PDP?
“Our take is that in spite of the conspiracies, the will of the people will prevail.  All our members and supporters are fully mobilized and ready for the elections.
“It is obvious that we are winning; the people are with us and will not accept anything short of free, fair and credible elections which will be adequately represented in the results therein.”

There Would Be Riot If I Don’t Contest, Donald Trump Says

Republican frontrunner Donald Trump warned Wednesday that “riots” could break out if he is denied the US presidential nomination despite having won most of the party’s primary and caucus elections.
“We’re way ahead of everybody. I don’t think you can say that we don’t get it automatically,” Trump told CNN the morning after his latest round of election victories, in the states of Illinois, North Carolina and Florida.
“I think you would have riots,” he said. “You know, I’m representing many, many millions of people.”
Trump, who has never held elected office, has dominated the 2016 presidential campaign thus far with his bombastic style and his unexpectedly strong popularity with masses of American voters.

Rivers Re-run: Wike, Jonathan Must Be Put To Shame – Amaechi

Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has urged the People of Rivers to disappoint State Governor, Nyesom Wike and former President Goodluck Jonathan by voting for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the March 19, 2016 re-run election.
The former governor, now the Minister for Transport, made the calls on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, during a town hall meeting in the state.
He said: “We must stop Nyesom Wike and the only way we can stop him is to vote the APC in the House of Representatives, House of Assembly and Senate. This is our opportunity to vote and put shame on them; we have to put shame on three persons: the first person is the former president, the second, is his wife and the third is Wikee.

“The fourth is those who do not recognise the use of card reader, those who first said the magnitude of violence in Rivers was too heavy and moved the election tribunal to Abuja, but later came back to say there was no election, we leave them to God”. Thanks for reading
