No plan to hand over NIPOST to foreing Managers says minister

The Minister of Communications and Technology, Adebayo Shittu has disclosed that the Federal Government has no plan to hand over the operations of the Nigerian Poster Service, NIPOST, to foreigners.
The Minister in a statement signed by his media aide, Victor Oluwadamilare on Monday dismissed as untrue insinuations that the government had concluded arrangements to allow foreign managers operate NIPOST but however noted that the government was committed to turning the fortunes of NIPOST around for profitability.
His words: “our attention has been drawn to various insinuations making the rounds on the social media and a section of the Nigerian press to the effect that the Ministry of Communications was said to have concluded plans to hand over NIPOST to foreigners to manage.
“Ordinarily, we would have ignored the innuendoes, as there is no iota of truth in the said story, except for the likelihood of Nigerians being misled on our genuine intentions to reposition and revitalise NIPOST.
“In putting the records straight, the Government of the day has no plan whatsoever to either privatise NIPOST nor hand it over to foreigners to manage. This could only happen in the imagination of those who concocted and orchestrated the rumour to achieve only their inordinate mischief.
“For the avoidance of doubt, and as stated at different fora by the Minister of Communications, Barrister Shittu, Our vision of the new NIPOST is a total transformation from being a mono-product service organisation to a one-stop multi-product service provider with the ultimate aim of making it a cash-spinning establishment that can make meaningful contribution to the country’s revenue base.
“Such transformation will no doubt, entail diversification of services which will include rendering robust and all-inclusive financial services, utilising post offices across the country for rural telephony services, commercialising NIPOST’s fleet of vehicles, running a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and expansion of the stamp duties processes among others.
“Barrister Shittu, an avowed nationalist is a patriotic Nigerian who is wholly committed to the sustenance of our national institutions and legacies will never join the league of those hell-bent in selling off our common heritage,” the statement added. Thanks for reading.

FG discovers 23,846 ghost workers saves N2.3Bn monthly

No fewer than 23, 846 ghost workers have been removed from the Federal Government payroll, thus saving about N2.293 billion monthly, an amount formerly paid to the non-existent workers, The federal ministry of Finance has said.
In a statement Yesterday, Minister of finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun through her Special Adviser, Mr. Festus Akanbi, said; “this figure represents a percentage of the number of non-existent workers who had hitherto been receiving salary from various ministries, departments and agencies”.
Adeosun said the recovery was achieved through the Bank Verification Numbers, BVN-based staff audit and enrolment to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, IPPIS.
The BVN audit has also reduced the list of military pensioners by 19,203. “The Military Pension Board has revised the amount payable for its due pension contributions on a monthly basis by N575million, following its annual verification exercise for military retirees. This reduced the number of pensioners by 19,203 as a result of deaths since the last verification exercise in 2012,” the statement said.
He said that more investigations were on-going in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
“The Federal Government is also taking actions to pursue recovery of salary balances in bank accounts as well as any pension contributions in respect of the deleted workers. This involves active collaboration with the concerned banks and the National Pension Commission, PenCom.
“Due to the fact that personnel costs represent over 40 per cent of total government expenditure, the Federal Government will continue to strengthen its payroll controls. It plans to undertake periodic checks and to utilise computer Assisted audit techniques under its new continuous audit programme.
“This will ensure that all payments are accurate and valid. Requirements for new entrants joining the Federal Civil Service have also been enhanced to prevent the introduction of fictitious employees in future.
“The ongoing exercise, which is part of the cost-saving and anti-corruption agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, is key to funding the deficit in the 2016 budget, as savings made will ultimately reduce the amount to be borrowed.”
Adeosun explained that the Federal Government would not accede to the request of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, that its members be co-opted into the panel investigating the cases of indicted civil servants because the investigations were of a criminal nature and would, therefore, be handled by the appropriate investigative agencies. WIll Nigeria boycott banks on tuesdays.

If Nigerians heed the call by the Consumer Advocacy Foundation of Nigeria (CAFON) and Coalition of Nigerian Consumer Protection Associations, banks across the country, on Tuesday, March 1, will be empty. CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele The group wants Nigerians to boycott the banks on that day in protest against alleged arbitrary charges imposed on customers by the financial institutions. This is coming weeks after the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) imposed N50 on customers as compulsory stamp duty on deposits of N1,000 and above. The charge, however, is collected on behalf of NIPOST and the Federal Government and it goes to the Federation Account.  Only last week, the CBN said it got banks across the country to return excess charges, estimated at N6.2billion, to customers. Our investigations revealed that, aside  normal bank charges associated with daily transactions, depositors are exposed to many hidden charges as well as what financial experts described as arbitrary charges. Charges enormous – Mikail, Shareholders Association boss In a chat, the National President, Constance Shareholders. Association of Nigeria, Mr. Shehu Mikail, explained. that  the banks are facing a lot of challenges in the operating environment, saying, however, that this does not justify some of the charges. He said, “The reality is that, banks have to collect certain charges to sustain their operations, in order to remain in business.   They have to pay their staff, give dividends to shareholders and carry out general maintenance of their facilities.   The banks spend a lot of money to buy diesel daily to generate power due to erratic electricity supply in the country. So, at the end of month, they transfer some of the costs to customers as bank charges. We are not saying that. banks should not collect charges from customers, because they need some of these charges to stay afloat in business.   But the issue is that, the charges are so enormous and, if not checked, may have adverse effect on the cashless monetary policy already in place. For instance, a large part of Nigeria is still un-banked, and if these numerous charges are not curtailed, many people who are already using the services of banks may stop patronising them”. Responding to what the Bankers  Committee, which often meet to examine issues in the financial sector, is doing currently to tackle the challenges in. the sector, he said, “It is clear that the Bankers Committee, at present, does not know exactly what to do, in order to turn around the financial sector of the economy, especially in the issue of forex crisis rocking the sector. So, deliberate and consistent government policies are needed to restructure the sector for greater efficiency, especially in the aspect of exchange rate that is affecting virtually everything in the economy now.” CBN, Bankers’ Committee and bank charges: It could be recalled that the cashless policy was first introduced by CBN on January 1, 2012 in Lagos State, where the higher. proportion of cash circulates daily as a pilot study to test-run the process. Thus, the CBN and the Bankers Committee, in November 2012, agreed to abolish all charges associated with the use of ATMs,   in order to increase patronage of ATMs, thereby deepening   financial inclusion strategy of the apex bank. So, in December, 2012, they abolished the payment of N100 ATM withdrawal charge by depositors. They transferred the payment of the N100 fee to the issuing banks, stressing that the fee be split between the acquiring bank, issuing bank and switch companies. But, on August 13, 2014, the. same Committee and the CBN re-introduced ATM charge of N65 instead of N100, to be paid by individual customers. The circular, signed by the Director of Banking and Payment Systems Department of CBN then, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, stated, “The CBN agreed to re-introduce ATM charge because the cost of transaction was becoming too burden some for the banks to bear. The circular from September 1, 2014 shall be effective date for the implementation of the new charge. Banks are expected to conduct adequate sensitisation to the customers on introduction of the new fee. As a result. of the un-intended consequences of the decision, which has resulted in substantial cost burden incurred by banks in defraying the cost of the service, the payment structure for card carrying bank customers is hereby reviewed in line with the present realities”. Customers’ angle When we visited some commercial banks in Lagos, customers were seen carrying out their normal transactions. It was also observed that, some banks had more customers in the banking halls and at the ATM points, while other places were very scanty.  Some of the depositors who spoke during the visit blamed. the CBN for re-introducing ATM charged that was abolished by the former governor of CBN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, while other said that banks are making a lot of money from customers, yet they keep on retrenching, even as many of their workers are on contract. A customer at Oluwo, Ikeja branch of First Bank, who gave her name as Mrs. Gloria Moses, said, “The apex bank that regulates activities of commercial banks is acting as if it is panicking, especially in the area of foreign exchange. If you look at the forex policies of the CBN critically, you can easily realise that the current CBN is already. panicking. To me, the re-introduction of ATM charge after it was removed by the same CBN was unnecessary.  For that reason, I don’t use ATM of other banks for withdrawal since that charge was brought back. I simply withdraw from my own bank to avoid paying extra charge. It seems the CBN is even losing focus on what the banking public actually want, which is a reduction in interest rate for industries to thrive and create jobs for the masses. I think the re-introduction of ATM charge constitutes policy inconsistency”. Perspective of advocacy group/Objective Some of the practices mentioned by. CAFON, which necessitated the action against banks excessive charges, unexplainable fees and unfair contracts designed to protect the financial institutions to the detriment of the banking public. Others are indiscriminate debiting of customers’ accounts for charges that are arbitrary and unilateral changes in interest rates by banks, and this without prior notice to the consumers.

I didn't spend N329M on any official car Saraki cries out

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has denied allegation that he spent over N329million to replace vehicles on its official fleet as part of the N4.7billion budgeted by the Senate for car purchase this year.
Saraki while reacting to the allegation by an online medium, said that it was only his official car inherited from former Senate President,David Mark, that was replaced and no any other one.
The statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Yusuph Olaniyonu reads: “It is an obvious fact that the official and spare cars that the Senate President inherited and has been using are old and have been malfunctioning. There are instances like the day Dr. Saraki visited Keffi for the marriage of the daughter of SenatorAbdullahi Adamu and another day at the Presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport that the spare vehicle broke down. In both instances, the spare vehicle did not return home with the convoyThe same vehicle had malfunctioned at the Presidential Villa and National Mosque on different occasions. It is for this reason that the Senate President approved that instead of providing two vehicles for him as he is entitled, only one should be bought to replace the official vehicle while the old official car should be converted to spare car.
“Also, if the National Assembly Management chose to provide operational vehicles for Security Agencies, should that be presented as if they are personal or official vehicles meant for the use of Dr. Saraki? These are vehicles that cannot be used for other purposes and by other people. The Senate President also have no control over the security vehicles.”

JAMB shifts UTME in Unilag center

The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME,  2016 all Computer Based Test ( CBT) version conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) would not hold at the University of Lagos centre until March 7. Dr Beatrice Okorie, the Coordinator of JAMB National Head quarters Annex, Lagos, told journalists that this was because of the institution’s 2014/2015 convocation that would start on Monday February 29 with the convocation lecture and will run till March 3, she noted.
Okorie had, however, commend the conduct of candidates during the examinations for being peaceful and seamless. According to her, candidates at the Yaba College of Education centre where she monitored the examination for instance, arrived the centre as early as 8.30 a.m.
She said that the candidates were searched and screened by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), using the scanners. Her words: “The conduct of this year’s examination looks encouraging, smooth and stress free. It is seamless as reports reaching me from the slit one of the examination that comprises 30 centres across the state says that so far the exams have been very peaceful with no issues at all.
“Here in our centre, actually we have 53 accredited centres but we used 30 for Saturday , but from Monday we shall put all the remaining 23 others in use. We have enough machines for the biometrics and as a result, there was no waste of time in checking the candidates into the examination hall,’’ Okorie noted.
She said that the entire examination centre was calm and one would hardly know that an examination was going on here unlike what was obtained before then. Okorie noted that only one session of the examination was held on Saturday in all the examination centres in and outside the country.
NAN reports that 1.8 million candidates are sitting for the examination in 540 centres in Nigeria and eight foreign centres, including Cameroon. The figure includes 343 inmates and 201 visually impaired candidates. The examination is expected to be concluded on March 11.

Top lobbying groups in historic green energy U-turn

Energy UK, which represents big six providers, says it now supports phasing out coal-fired stations, after years of defending use of fossil fuels
Wind turbines at WE Niederaussem coal-fired power in Germany.
The UK’s biggest energy lobbying group has shifted its position on green energy and will start campaigning for low-carbon alternatives for the first time, in what environmental campaigners are describing as a watershed moment.
Lawrence Slade, the chief executive of Energy UK, which represents the big six providers and has been regarded as a defender of fossil fuels, said the shift was urgent in order not to be left behind.
“No one wants to be running the next Nokia,” he said, referring to the mobile phone company that was overtaken by forward-looking rivals. “I want to drive change and move away from accepted (old-style) thinking.”
This is a major turnaround for an organisation that has historically been criticised by consumer and green groups as a dinosaur protecting the vested interest of incumbent supply companies such as British Gas, SSE and others.
Energy UK now officially supports the government’s phasing out of coal-fired power stations and is critical of ministers over the way they have cut subsidies to wind and solar power so deeply and suddenly.
Slade accepts that the big six, along with ministers, have made plenty of mistakes in the past but he says it is now time to develop a national plan that everyone - especially consumers - can buy into.
Slade said: “It would be quite a sensible thing to have an Energiewende [Germany’s plan to move to a majority of renewable energy sources] but the emphasis would have to be on our own version not a direct cut and paste.” The German energy transition programme has attracted support but also some criticism.
Slade, who formally took over the top job last summer, was talking following the publication of Energy UK’s Pathways to 2030 policy document prepared with the help of professional service company, KPMG.
Amid concern about the lights going out, 60 local authorities argued last week that coal-fired power stations should be kept open, but Slade surprisingly disagrees, saying we need lower-carbon solutions.
Energy UK wants to see more demand reduction, plus regulatory changes, to help support electricity storage projects that help balance out the peaks and troughs caused by wind and solar power.
Slade also believes urgent action is required to encourage power companies to keep existing gas-fired plants running, as well as the provision of aid to make it worthwhile for new ones to be constructed.
Energy UK is calling for much more long-term thinking and financing. It says that details on the levy control framework of subsidy levels should be published so that investors have a clear picture up to 2025.
Slade believes onshore windfarms should be allowed access to new forms of subsidies and says that aid cuts since the last election have undermined investor confidence.
He said: “Energy policy is not as yet coherent. It is becoming clearer but more needs to be done. Investment is there but not forthcoming because there is not black and white clarity [on government policy]. The abruptness of some of the cuts and the scale of some of the cuts have alarmed people.”
Slade said he is keen to move on from arguments of the past and concentrate on solutions as Britain moves away from big central power stations to a more decentralised system of energy.
Catherine Mitchell, a professor of energy policy at the University of Exeter and a champion of the low-carbon economy, welcomed the apparent U-turn by Slade’s organisation.
She said: “Energy UK is the conventional industry lobby, and is generally at the conservative end of arguments. This [Pathways] report reads almost as if they have ‘flipped’ to the other side. I take this to mean that their members realise that their future is in the ‘new’ energy system rather than the ‘old’, and this is to be welcomed.”
Richard Black, the director of the non-profit Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, also viewed Energy UK’s new stance as positive. He said: “The report shows that experts across the industry see a time of tremendous change ahead for the electricity system, with the traditional utility model increasingly outdated.
He added: “Falling demand, increasingly competitive renewables, storage, interconnectors, demand response – this is the blueprint for the electricity system just 15 years hence, and it’s telling that it comes from an industry body rather than a ‘green’ thinktank.”

Dasukigate;Presidency vows to indict Jonathan if involveed

The Presidency has pledged to charge former President Goodluck Jonathan for corruption if found to be involved in the arms purchase scandal

It will be recalled that bigwigs in the People Democratic Party (PDP) including its national Publicity Secretary, Olisah Metuh, DAAR communications chairman, Raymond Dokpesi, among others were being grilled by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for allegedly benefiting from the arms purchase money.

Dasukigate;Buhari, beign mindful to probe Jonathan says former minister

Former power and steel minister and current Deputy National Leader of the Northern Elders Forum, Dr Paul Unongo, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is being mindful to summon former President Goodluck Jonathan over the $2.1 billion Arms purchase fund which was allegedly siphoned by former Security Adviser, Lt. Col Sambo Dasuki (Rtd).
According to Dr Paul, Jonathan must face the wrath of the law if found guilty to have masterminded the $2.1 billion diverted Arms purchase fund through Dasuki.
He said: “I think President Buhari is trying to be careful in not summoning Jonathan so far. I don’t believe there was an agreement President Buhari had not to probe Jonathan as being reported”.

Former President – Goodluck Jonathan
Dr Paul who acknowledged the fact that Jonathan was a hero by conceding defeat in the last 2015 presidential election also stated that, “Jonathan deserves a special consideration for his contribution to democratic culture in Nigeria and for enabling us to avert a national crisis by conceding defeat during the general elections. He also mobilised support for the present government. Jonathan was great in defeat. He is a hero for doing this.
“ if it is proved by a transparent process that he stole the country’s money and he refuses to return it, then the law should take its course, whether he is a former President or not. He should be prosecuted and jailed. This is important in order to serve as a deterrent to others”.  Thanks for reading.

Buhari's Anti-corruption in line with APC'S idealogy says Oyegun

Anti-corruption War: Buhari Won’t Deviate From APC’s Original Ideology - Oyegun
APC Logo
National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption campaign was not targeted at anybody.
While addressing Journalists yesterday in Benue State during a Senatorial campaign of Mr Daniel Onjeh, representing the Benue South, Oyegun asserted that the anti-corruption war by the President was for the general interest of Nigerians.
He stressed that the anti-corruption war was not selective adding that both members of the ruling APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) found wanting were being prosecuted by the anti-corruption agencies.
“Certainly, there will be hard nuts to crack. When we took over, we did not expect to meet this kind of economy where our currency would be so depreciated and crude oil sold as low as 38 dollars per barrel.
“The manifesto of the APC is built around the Presidency and welfare of the citizen is the paramount objective of the party.
“The Buhari administration will not deviate from this original ideology of the party. He will stabilise the economy and fulfil all his campaign promises. Most importantly, everything the President is doing is for the overall interest of the Nigerian citizens”.
Oyegun added, “PDP has been in government at the centre for 16 years when all these atrocities were being perpetrated; so. It is normal that majority of the people dragged to court will be their members.
“Recently, there are backlogs of cases coming up as reported by the media and some of the people being taken to court are members of the APC. So, it is very unfair to say that the President is doing selective justice in his fight against corruption,” he noted. Thanks for reading

You wine and Dine with vultures, Lamido mocks Buhari

Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Dr. Sule Lamido, has told Nigerians not to expect much from the All Progressives Congress (APC), just as he said that President Muhammadu Buhari was surrounded with people of questionable characters.
According to Lamido, Nigeria’s problem was not only corruption. He stated that the current crop of APC members were in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), when it was in power.
“How can President Buhari say he is fighting corruption when he is surrounded by people of questionable characters, a group of people who were part of the government he is criticizing” .
“Democracy should be able to address our problems, unite us and not to put fear in the land, compelling people to be pretending to be what they are not because they don’t want to be imprisoned.”
It will be recalled that Sule Lamido and his two sons, Mustapha and Aminu, were arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over money laundering charges.
Lamido also reportedly named former Vice president, Atiku Abubakar and Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso as the real enemies of President Muhammadu Buhari. Thanks for reading

Nigeria begins move to establish national career says Presidency

The Presidency on Sunday disclosed that the Federal Government has commenced discussions on partnerships towards establishing a national airline for the country.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists from Doha, Qatar where President Muhammadu Buhari is currently on an official visit.
Adesina did not however disclose the details of the discussions and the level the government has reached.
He however said that Nigerian authorities have reached an agreement with the State of Qatar which will soon translate into direct flights between major cities of both countries.
H added that the two countries have also signed an agreement that will forestall double taxation and tax evasion.
Adesina said the Bilateral Air Services Agreement and the other agreement were signed on Sunday in Doha on the sideline of Buhari’s state visit to Qatar.
According to him, the Minister of State for Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, signed the air services agreement on behalf of Nigeria while Qatar’s Minister of Transportation and Communications, Jassim Bin Saif Alsulaiti, signed on behalf the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hammad Al-Thani.
The statement read in part, “The agreement which was signed in the presence of both leaders is expected to operate on the principle of reciprocity by the designated airlines on behalf of the countries.
“The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, also signed the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes income with her Qatari counterpart, Ali Shareef Al Emadi.
“It is also expected that the agreement on bilateral air service will promote trade, commerce and tourism between the two countries just as Nigeria has also commenced discussions on partnerships towards establishing a national airline for Nigeria.
“The agreement on the avoidance of double taxation which had been negotiated since February 2015 will no doubt bring in more investments and businesses between Qatar and Nigeria.” Thanks for reading.

Nigeria's Governors forum to Review executed projects in four states

Some members of the House of Representatives on Sunday asked their colleagues to stop interfering with the crisis in the Senate involving Senator Kabiru Marafa and his colleagues.
The House members noted that the Senate and the House were independent arms of the National Assembly, each having its internal rules.
They said this implied that none of the arms should not meddle in the internal affairs of the other since they could individually resolve any internal crisis without seeking outside help.
Marafa had lately accused the leadership of the Senate under Senator Bukola Saraki of using the distortions in the 2016 budget as an opportunity to settle political scores.
But, last week, a group of House members, including the Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education, Mr. Zakari Mohammed, cautioned Marafa to be mindful of his choice of words.
The members had claimed that Marafa was disparaging the institution of the legislature with his utterances.
However, on Sunday, 15 members of the House replied the Mohammed group, saying that the latter should steer clear of the crisis in the Senate.

Steer clear of Senate, Marafa's Row, Reps warn meddling colleagues

The 15 members are John Dyegh, Hon Lawal Yahaya-Gumau, Ahmad Babba-Kaita, Agunsoye Rotimi, Ali Madaki and Aminu Malle.
The list also had Nazir Zango-Daura, Muhammed Soba, Ismail Gadaka, Abdulrahman Shuaibu, Sunday Adepoju, Adekunle Akinlade, Musa Sarki-Adar, Ajibola Famurewa and Abdulmamud Gaiya.

Bayelsa, going down the drain says Dickson

Seriake Dickson, Bayelsa state governor has lamented the poor financial position of the state, stating that it was becoming increasingly difficult for the government to meet its financial obligations.
Dickson made this known on Friday at during the inauguration of three new special advisers. He said that the state got N2.9 billion from the federation account in February.
“I have not seen anything like what has just been reported to me by the finance team. For this month, what has come into our state is N2.9 billion; it has never been this bad.
“Meanwhile, our salary obligation for civil servants alone, is about N4 billion, so you can see where we are, as a state.
Four years ago, when this government started, the first allocation we received was about N16 billion. At some point, it climbed to N18 and even N19 billion.
“That was why we put all your resources in most of these ambitious projects that a number of them, including the Ogobiri bridge, first flyover and several roads have been completed.”
Appealing for understanding from the people, particularly the workers, Dickson said the state government would be compelled to take hard decisions after due consultations with stakeholders. Thanks for reading

Theives regrets stealing from OAU students

So it all went down at ETF (Education Trust Fund) hall on Saturday morning, some guy at ETF was in the reading room and suddenly he realised that his laptop was missing! He raised alarm. Then, a few minutes after, one of the cleaners couldn’t find her phone! Concerned and vigilant students immediately surrounded the perimeters and ta-dah! The thief was caught! Trust OAU students, they immediately bundled him.

The thief identified himself as Tope Ogunnusi. Following his confession to the student union security, it was discovered that he was not working alone and that it was a tag team with one Ogbe Okojie who was consequently nabbed.
Do you know the annoying part? Neither of them is an OAU student! In fact, they came all the way from Benin city to OAU to steal. I hear that Okojie started the job first, after he had succeeded in stealing some items, he then gave a call to the other guy. So they started the mission last week Monday with Tope working at ETF hall and Okogie working at Fajuyi hall. You know, division of labour and all.
Okojie was correct about the market because they confessed to have stolen 14 laptops , 25 Nokia phones, 16 Infinix phones, 11 Blackberry phones, 10 Samsung phones and many more items in one week! *Hands on head* *mouth open*. Some of the stolen items have been retrieved and returned to their owners but, the thieves said they had already sold the others to some retailers in Akure, Ondo state.

Anyhow sha, OAU is the worst campus for thieves as Tope and Okogie soon discovered. They were beaten like animals. As in, the thing about beating thieves in OAU is that everybody contributes. Some people who lost their items weeks or months ago will just transfer aggression on your thievery-infected head.

The thieves, Ogbe Okojie and Tope Ogunnusi after being beaten by angry students
It was bad, they were stripped off their clothes and paraded on the streets. If you were there, you would have pitied them.
Anywayzs, thou can steal, but, for your own good, not in OAU! Thanks for reading

Aliens invade OAU run for your lives

Wonders never end around here! Is it just me or is this an entirely different level of crazy on OAU campus?! Please, help me. So, I was on my way to my room from one seemingly-eternal and excruciatingly boring lecture, (Yes, its bad like that) I got to Moremi junction, and boom! Men in blue walking to and fro the zebra crossing. I looked around to see exactly what they were advertising but no bus, no posters, no banner! What is wrong with this people…?! Since then, I have seen them everywhere sha. Some guys, wearing black all through, with their hands and faces painted in blue paint, walking in slow motion. Same age and height, same dressing, long strides and fixed gazes. Truth is, if its your first time, its nothing short of creepy. The other day I was in a bus and one of them kept staring at me, as in, you certainly dont want to see these people at night.  The thing is, no one seems to know who these guys are or what they are roaming our streets for. What connects them or what goal they plan to achieve. I have poked my nose everywhere and even  I’m not so clear on this one. One theory prevails though, it’s OAU’s second semester, the season of elections on campus and i strongly believe that this is a campaign stunt by one of the candidates. When I eventually find out who is behind this, I will give kudos to his or her campaign manager largely because, it has been fun having the ‘blue guys’ around. We even have nicknames for them now: “blue aliens”, “men in blue” and so on.  I feel for those guys though, all that paint! All that time, walking like dummies on the road, under the blazing sun!! I hope they are being paid o. If not, guys, why sacrifice your life for one persons political ambition… *coughs* is that life? *dodges blows* Anyhow, that’s all! Off to minding my own business! Man Kills 14 Members Of His Family With Knife

A 35-year-old man allegedly murdered 14 members of his family including seven children with a butcher’s knife before committing suicide outside India’s financial capital of Mumbai, police said Sunday.
The attack happened after family members gathered late on Saturday at one of their homes in Thane, some 32 kilometres (20 miles) from Mumbai, for a family function, police said.
“The attacker, Hasnin Anwar Warekar, hung himself after slitting the throats of all other family members including his parents,” a Thane police spokesman, Gajanan Laxman Kabdule, told AFP.
The sole survivor of the attack, Warekar’s sister, was taken to hospital after neighbours heard her screaming for help after midnight and alerted police.
“We still haven’t been able to speak with the attacker’s 21-year-old sister, the lone survivor of the attack, who is in deep trauma at a city hospital,” Kabdule said.
Warekar attacked his family after apparently lacing their food with a sedative, according to several local media reports.
But the Indian Express newspaper said the chartered accountant stabbed his victims after they went to bed, having all decided to spend the night at the house.
“Prima facie evidence suggests that the accused bolted all the doors of the house and murdered his family while they were asleep with a knife that we found near his body,” Ashutosh Dumbre, joint commissioner of Thane police, was quoted saying.
Kabdule said he could not confirm whether the victims had been sedated, saying investigators were awaiting medical test results.
Television footage showed men lifting bodies wrapped in sheets in to the back of an ambulance, as crowds gathered outside the white-walled home.
Kabdule said details of the attack “are still sketchy” along with the motive.
According to the Press Trust of India news agency, a property dispute was behind the killings, but Dumbre said initial investigations have so far found no trigger for such an “extreme step”.
“In our inquiry so far, no one has yet been able to give the reason for this,” Dumbre told the ABP news channel.
“He worked with a private company in Mumbai. There were no known financial troubles or disputes and now we are hoping that the lone survivor can tell us something about the trigger,” he said. Thanks for reading

A Saudi who kidnapped and tried to rape his employer was put to death Tuesday in the kingdom’s 64th execution of the year, AFP reports. Mufrih bin Ahmed Khamis worked as the victim’s driver, the interior ministry said in a statement. A court found that he consumed alcohol before abducting her and her baby, “taking advantage of the fact that he drove her to the school where she worked,” it said. “He beat her, handcuffed her and placed tape over her mouth. He then drove her to an isolated location and tried to rape her.” After stealing her money and telephone, Khamis abandoned the woman and child, the ministry added. After his trial and conviction, Khamis was executed in the southwestern city of Abha. Most people sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia are beheaded with a sword. The kingdom executed 47 people in a single day on January 2 on “terrorism” charges. saudi-arabia-beheadings-rightsIn 2015, Saudi Arabia executed 153 people, mostly for drug trafficking or murder, according to an AFP count. President Mohammadu Buhari has said he would not pay the N5000 he promised to pay the unemployed youth in the country

President Mohammadu Buhari has said he would not pay the N5000 stipend he promised to unemployed youth in the country.
The president made the remarks at the weekend while on the visit in Middle East.
It will be recalled that All Progressives Congress, APC had during its campaign supported the promise of paying N5,000 as monthly stipend to the most vulnerable in the country.
But in a shocking u-turn, Buhari said it was wise to use the funds to put up infrastructures and empower the youth through agriculture than to give out monies.
He said: “This largesse N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure, the school and correct them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000, N5,000 to those who don’t work.”
